Technology Poised to Democratize Private Market Access for Individual Investors
Fidelity Investments' June rollout of custom model portfolios with alternative investments marks a pivotal step toward opening private markets to wealth management firms. Yet the sector remains hampered by manual processes. "As scale increases, technology becomes non-negotiable," asserts Andrew Tarver of InvestCloud's PMA Network, highlighting the infrastructure gap.
The February alliance between InvestCloud and Apollo Global Management birthed the Private Markets Account Network - a unified platform merging public and private assets. Leveraging InvestCloud's APL system, the network bridges wealth managers to alternative asset classes spanning private credit, real estate, and non-traded REITs.
Fidelity's recent survey reveals 46% of advisors actively seek hybrid portfolios blending traditional and alternative assets. "Wealth managers are hunting for solutions that marry both worlds," confirms Amanda Robinson, head of Fidelity's advisory distribution. The data underscores growing institutional recognition of alternatives as portfolio staples rather than luxuries.
